Dolce & Gabbana do ‘Boudoir & Gabbana’

DOLCE & GABBANA: BOUDOIR COOL
Dolce & Gabbana presented their Fall-Winter 2023-2024 collection in Milan, Italy, with half the cast in lingerie and Kim Kardashian in the front row. The show began with a theme music to Visconti’s classic 1963 film Il Gattopardo, setting the tone for the collection. The invitation was a 32-page newspaper supplement style invitation, half of which was lingerie, making clear the duo’s intentions.

UNDERWEAR AS OUTERWEAR
When it comes to underwear as outerwear or boudoir cool in general, Dolce & Gabbana more or less invented the categories. This show was no exception, with semi-sheer leotards morphing into floor-length gowns, sheer mesh cocktails over lace underwear, and large transparent gowns with intricate details. The collection was saucy and seductive, energetic, and empowering.

GOLDEN GLAM
The show also included a section devoted to Asian influencers, with dramatic techno industrial soundtrack by First Nation Canadian DJ Anyma. Matinee idol tuxedos, slinky coat dresses, micro-Spencers paired with jodhpurs and a great band leader set of tails were all presented in black, before a blast of Fort Knox gold panache and a finale of sinful red.

FEMALE EMPOWERMENT
The collection was empowering because it said that women can enhance, flaunt and demonstrate their beauty as much as they want, not to be objectified but to be objects of beauty. Dolce & Gabbana’s Fall-Winter 2023-2024 collection was a celebration of female beauty and empowerment.
