Fendi, Robert Wun and Mugler

Paris Couture Week ended with a bang as Fendi, Robert Wun, and Mugler all showcased their collections. Fendi presented a collection in a perfect white oval with blue bench seating, featuring slinky silvery semi-sheer sheathes and slip dresses, often accompanied by long silver leather gloves and diamanté clutches. However, a wardrobe malfunction moment occurred when a Black model stumbled repeatedly in a gray silk dress. Robert Wun made his couture debut with a co-ed show, featuring a posh-English-chimney-sweep look in a crystalline mac, huge umbrella-giant-pinball-wizard boots, and a modern geisha in a giant silver crinoline and humongous pagoda hat. Mugler’s show was cinematic, sexy, and self-indulgent, featuring several historic runway stars, as models marched out under arch lights followed by a camera crew on a dolly. All wore a fresh take on Mugler with more volume, texture and evening, but no gowns.

Fendi’s collection was perfectly okay, but lacked a proper brand identity. Robert Wun’s debut was couture in all caps, but the models could barely walk so tight were the dresses. Mugler’s show was a triumph, with models such as Amber Valletta and Eva Herzigova causing the biggest burst of applause. The brand has clearly gathered momentum under Cadwallader, showing a brand-new curvy bag, with a shoe line and swimwear in the pipeline. Business is clearly booming for the three brands, as this fashion spectacular underlined, with Fendi drawing the great and the good, Robert Wun showcasing his design chops and imagination, and Mugler’s energetic designer Casey Cadwallader staging a live runway since the pandemic.
