All right. So I’m going to show you how to make a great cup of coffee.
First off, you got to start with good beans. It’s really hard to make a good cup of coffee if you don’t start with quality products.
There’s two things that you’re really concerned with – one is the roast level and the other is the origin.
Most coffee that we drink in America is a medium roast, which is kind of a balance between the roastiness and a little bit of the bean’s natural sweetness and acidity.
And then your coffee is going to be brewed and you want to brew it with hot water. But you don’t want to brew it with boiling water because the boiling water is going to extract more of the compounds.
What they recommend for brewing coffee, the optimal temperature to brew coffee is between 195 and 205 degrees Fahrenheit.
The standard coffee-to-water ratio is two tablespoons of coffee for six ounces of water.
When you’re brewing coffee, you generally want to try to keep the time that we’re brewing somewhere between four and six minutes, no longer than that.
So the ratio that you want to go for, if you don’t have a fancy scale, is roughly two parts water to one part coffee.
And then you just want to pour very slowly in a circular motion. And we’re just pouring slowly to saturate the coffee and let it bloom.
And then once you’ve added all your water, you’re just going to give it a little stir.
And then you’re going to let your coffee do it’s thing. You can see the coffee brewing – it’s just a sexy process.
And that is the basics of how to brew coffee.
