Good morning, my friends! Today, let’s talk about brightness. A friend of mine from the channel asked about the difference between 50% and 80% shading. The difference in brightness is determined by the plants you place above and below the shading. Each type of plant requires a specific level of brightness, and it is crucial not to deprive them of it.

I have some freshly planted orchids here that require a lot of brightness. Although they are not in direct sunlight yet, the trees provide the perfect climate and brightness for them. As I move down, I have other orchids that require around 60-65% shading. So, I do not need to use an 80% shading cloth like I do for the plants that need that level of brightness.

To adjust the brightness to around 60-70%, I hang the plants that need 50% shading closer to the shading cloth, keeping them 40-50 cm away from it. The upper plants create a shadow for the lower ones, providing the perfect level of brightness. I do not leave my plants in direct sunlight all day, but I ensure they get the right amount of brightness.

I then move to the area with an 80% shading cloth. Here, I have orchids that require 60-65% shading, so I adjust the brightness by creating shadow with the upper plants. This way, I do not need to have a separate 80% shading cloth. It’s all about finding the right placement for your plants and providing the specific level of brightness they need.

Remember, you do not have to panic if you cannot find a shading cloth with exactly 65% or 70% shading. You can create a customized shading system using a 50% shading cloth and strategically placing plants that provide additional shading. This will gradually decrease the brightness for the plants that require less.

In the end, it’s all about understanding the needs of your orchids and finding the right balance of brightness for them. I have shown you how to do it without the need for multiple shading cloths. The key is to observe your plants and make adjustments accordingly.

So, don’t worry about finding the exact shading cloth percentage. Focus on providing the right amount of brightness for your orchids. And remember, each orchid species may have different brightness requirements. Take care of your plants, adjust their environment, and watch them thrive!
