Running in the Garment District

**Description:**

Welcome to the heart of the Garment District in NYC! Join me as I take you on a simple run into the city to run some errands and explore this bustling neighborhood. Although there may not be as much activity during these pandemic times, the makers in the district are still hard at work, albeit not with the same intensity as before. I can’t wait for the day when I can sit at one of the local eateries, enjoy a podcast, and sketch away.

Our first stop is the US Post Office conveniently located at 223 West 38th Street. This branch offers self-service machines and the staff is always pleasant. Not only that, but my packages always reach their destination in record time.

Next, we head across the street to Pacific Trim at 220 W 38th Street. Prepare to be amazed by the countless aisles of trimmings, buttons, and zippers. Although I must admit, when it comes to thread, Sil Thread or Panda across the street is the better option. One thing I love about Pacific Trim is their wide selection of elastic. They have something for every need.

Before we wrap up, I couldn’t resist stopping by Preview Silk. Did you know that the fabric for those gorgeous Time magazine covers, featuring Amanda Gorman, was sourced from Preview Silks? The stunning gowns designed by Aiétte and Greta Constantine were a true testament to their craftsmanship. Bravo! This video is NOT sponsored, just thought I would give you (the 3 people who might watch) and idea of simple run into the City looks like.

Got to do some errands in the Garment District, which is from 34th Street – 41st Street west of 6th Ave. With some businesses going back to 9th ave, but fabric, trim, and suppliers land between 7th and 8th ave. These days during the pandemic there isn’t as much flurry going on, but makers are making, just not with the same intensity. I miss going to any one of the eateries and sit listen to a pod cast, sketch, think, whatever. However, I hope those days will come back soon.

My first stop was the the US Post office. This branch is located right in the heart of the district. What’s great is that they have the self service machines and I would say usually everyone is pleasant. I also have found that my packages get to where they are going fast. 223 West 38th Street

Next stop Pacific Trim, which is across the street at 220 W 38th Street. They have aisles and aisles of trimmings, buttons, thread (but Sil Thread or Panda across the street is better for thread), zippers (they will cut for you), etc. I needed elastic. Which I love they have a good selection of all kinds.https://www.pacifictrimming.com/

Then I was done, but before I go, I visit my friends at Preview Silk. The Time magazine covers, with Amanda Gorman the fabric for the gowns were from Preview Silks. Hot pink gown designed by Aiétte. The yellow gown by Greta Constantine. Bravo!
