S/S 2014 Collection by Rolando Santana

# Fashion Designer Rolando Santana Talks Spring 2014 Collection Inspired by Frida Kahlo – Backstage Interview at NYFW

In this exclusive backstage interview at New York Fashion Week, styleTV’s Josh McBride speaks with fashion designer Rolando Santana about his Spring 2014 collection inspired by the iconic Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.

Santana’s collection is a beautiful blend of Kahlo’s love of color and texture with a modern, wearable twist. According to Santana, his goal was to take elements of Kahlo’s unique style and translate them into pieces that could be worn by women around the world.

The collection features simple cuts that are both easy to wear and feminine, as well as a lot of flowers – a challenge for Santana, who tends to stay away from literal elements in his designs. He’s incorporated elements like the harness, which was a staple in Kahlo’s wardrobe due to the pain she experienced throughout her life.

Despite the nerves that come with any fashion show, Santana seems calm and excited to showcase his work. As he mentions in the interview, he was finishing up a piece just two hours before the show – a beautiful embroidered over skirt that ties in perfectly with the Frida Kahlo theme.

If you’re a fan of fashion, particularly of the unique style and inspiration of Frida Kahlo, you won’t want to miss this collection. Take a peek behind the scenes with Josh McBride and hear from the designer himself in this exclusive backstage interview at NYFW.
