Simple Sewing Tutorial: How to Add Shorts Under a Skirt

Introducing a new sewing hack tutorial on how to easily add shorts under a skirt! In this video, we will guide you step by step on how to create a skort by mixing a skirt pattern and a leggings pattern. Whether you want to make a swim skirt, a tennis skirt, or simply add shorts under any of your skirts, this hack is perfect for you. Get ready to learn and let’s get started!

To follow along with this tutorial, we will be using the gathered skirt from the tankini bathing suit pattern and the urban leggings pattern. However, feel free to use any skirt and leggings pattern of your choice. The process remains the same – attaching the leggings at the waistband along with the skirt. Don’t worry, it’s super easy and quick!

First, let’s determine the length of the shorts. Using a measuring tape, measure your inseam starting from your crotch area down to your desired length. If you already know your preferred inseam length, use that measurement. Mark this measurement on your pattern and fold it at that point. Cut along the fold to create the shorts length.

For the skirt, cut the front and back pieces, as well as the waistband, following your desired size. You can adjust the length of the skirt according to your preference.

In this video, I am wearing a hacked Chapman cardigan. While I couldn’t provide a tutorial for this exact dress due to technical difficulties, I assure you that I will create one in the future because I absolutely love it!
